The Midnight Plane has landed in Unity Books and other good bookshops around the country.
Dame Fiona Kidman has just launched her collection of selected and new poems at Unity Books, Wellington.
A beautifully designed publication by Otago University Press, it contains poems drawn from six previous books and features twenty brand new ones.
Fiona spoke movingly of the inspiration behind her works and read extracts to a large and enthusiastic audience, culminating in the titular poem itself.
Most resonating for those present from Randell Cottage was A Thorndon Poem for Kirsty that begins:
At the writers’ cottage we sit in the late afternoon
light, four poets talking about poetry
and the way it’s made, while the languorous
scent of stocks nuzzles the air, the last two
crisp scones crouching abandoned
on the platter.
