Katia speaks at Alliance Française event

March is Francophonie month at the Alliance Française in Wellington. The Randell Cottage resident writer, Katia Astafieff, helped launch the celebratory month when she featured at a full-house event on 6 March, in conversation with the French Embassy’s Noémie Clarke.

An adventurous traveller herself, Katia described the nineteenth-century voyages of intrepid botanical illustrator Marianne North, which have inspired her own writing project in New Zealand. The audience was especially fascinated by Katia’s photographs from her recent trip to Otago and Southland, which included native plants and views taken from the precise position of Marianne North’s oil paintings from the 1880s.
We now eagerly await the next development of Katia’s project.
Katia is due to speak to the Alliance Française in Dunedin on 24 March and Christchurch on 27 March.
