Applications for the New Zealand writer in residence at the Randell Cottage close on the first Friday in November each year. The successful candidate is announced in December.

In 2021 the residency will run from April to September. The French writer applies through the French Embassy and, in 2021, will be in Wellington from July to December, spending the first three months in alternative accommodation. The exact dates for the writers’ arrival and departure are decided by negotiation.

The 2021 residency is advertised subject to confirmation of funding from Creative New Zealand’s Arts Grants programme. Grant decisions are expected in early to mid-November.

When will the decision be announced?

The successful applicant will be advised in December of the year of application.

The Trust will arrange a formal public announcement.
